Feedback & Testimonials
We were asked in late 2006, to tender for the roof repairs & external maintenance at Sizergh Castle, Nr Kendal, an imposing medieval castle & listed monument, which has been the home of the Strickland family for over 750 years, but is owned by the National Trust. The work including access and protection, was to be carried out in 2 phases throughout 2007 & 2008 and very briefly included reroofing of the south wings; replacement and repair of lead roofs; repairs to chimney stacks including rendering and pointing; repairs to external walls; rebuilding of parapet walls; minor timber & glazing work to windows. Added complications were the presence of bats, newts and that the castle would remain open to the public.
Given the sensitive nature of the project and the importance of avoiding damage to the castle, the employer arranged for a design to be prepared in respect of the scaffolding and associated temporary roofs, as reflected on drawings S/4380/1A, 2A and 3.
We, as Main Contractors, were tasked with carefully selecting Scaffolding Sub-Contractors to ensure that they had the required experience & competency to erect the scale & complexity of structures required of scaffolding and protecting this project, the completed scaffold & temporary roofing could be clearly seen from the M6. At almost £400,000, this was certainly the largest scaffolding contract we had ever let.
After a thorough and rigorous selection/tendering procedure, we were pleased to award Cheshire Scaffolds the contract. Since commencing the works early in 2007, they have acquitted themselves very well during Phase 1 of the project and we are looking forward to working with them on the newly commenced Phase 2 which is due for completion in October this year.
We have been told that an entourage of employees from English Heritage's North West Region have recently visited the castle and the feedback was very positive indeed. There seems to have been a real appreciation of the works that have been undertaken and the quality of workmanship. Thanks to a great team effort from all concerned!

We are currently working on three projects with Cheshire Scaffolds with a total project value of £30 million pounds.
We have found the professional attitude in which Cheshire Scaffolds have approached their works refreshing. They have developed a good relationship with the site teams and other Sub-contractors.
Two of the projects have been demanding programmes which due to Cheshire Scaffolds Limited co-operation and efficiency have been bettered.
