Victoria Building, Liverpool
Project Value to Cheshire Scaffolds Ltd: £350k
Main Contractor: Kier Group plc
Main Contract Value: £8m
Once again Kier Group chose Cheshire Scaffolds to carry out the full access scaffold for the major refurbishment of this grade 2 listed building knowing that Cheshire had the knowledge, sympathy and understanding in dealing with such an historic building.
Victoria building, otherwise known as “The Red Brick Building”, was designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1889 and construction was completed in 1892 at a cost of £53,000. Victoria is the oldest building on the Liverpool University campus and is now a gallery and a museum.
To add to Cheshire Scaffolds recognition of carrying out this flagship project, not only did the Kier Group present Cheshire Scaffolds with a safety award, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) chose this contract to front its launch of the Merseyside and Wirral Scaffolding Protocol, which has since been launched nationwide by the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC).
