Manchester Airport Control Tower
Project Value to Cheshire Scaffolds Ltd: £330k+
Main Contractor: Morgan Sindall plc
Main Contract Value: £16m
Once again Morgan Sindall plc chose Cheshire Scaffolds Ltd to carry out the Access Scaffolding at Manchester Airport’s new flagship air traffic control tower. Not only is this a testament to Cheshire Scaffolds expertise but it also demonstrates our ability to compete at the highest level.
The tower is 60m (197 ft) high and was built using a method of continuous concrete pouring, using some 600 cubic metres of concrete and 65 tons of reinforced steelwork. The completed tower replaces the existing 40 year old tower and dominates Manchester’s skyline, providing a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire airport. It is positioned next to the North fire station. The building of the tower coincides with the introduction of a new air traffic control system at the airport, which has seen controllers moving from paper logs to a digital system.
